One of the great stories told about Rickwood Field occurred on July 16, 1952. That's when Jimmy Piersall climbed the staircase behind the press box - water pistol in tow - to heckle umpire Neil Strocchia from the roof. Piersall was suspended three days because of his antics and was then sent to a mental hospital for seven weeks.
